If you suffer from depression and have not seen benefits from medications and talk therapy, TMS may be for you. TMS was approved by the FDA for the treatment of medication resistant depression in 2008 and many insurance plans offer coverage for TMS therapy.
"TMS gave me my life back!"
TMS, or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, is a non-invasive therapy that stimulates specific regions of the brain associated with mood regulation. During a TMS session, a magnetic coil is placed near the scalp, creating painless magnetic pulses. These pulses trigger neuronal activity and promote the release of neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and dopamine, which play crucial roles in mood regulation. TMS is believed to reset imbalances in the brain, offering a promising path to depression relief.
In our clinic, we have seen a significant improvement in approximately 80% of our patients and over 40% of our patients have a complete resolution in their symptoms.
"I didn't have any side effects at all, which is not something I can say about other medications and things I've tried."
One of the most significant advantages of TMS therapy is its minimal side effects. Common side effects are generally mild and include mild scalp discomfort and occasional headache, which typically subside after each session. Unlike medications, TMS therapy does not have the systemic side effects that can accompany antidepressant drugs.
Typically, patients receive five treatments per week, over a course of six weeks. After the one-time setup process, each treatment session ranges between 3-37 minutes.
